The Department of Ecology and Evolution (DEE) is pleased to invite you to a one-day symposium aimed at building conceptual bridges across the Faculty.

Date: 16 January 2026, 09:00–17:00

Venue: Auditoire Yersin, CHUV

Participation is free of charge, but registration is required due to limited capacity.

Sex and gender differences are nearly universal across eukaryotic life and shape many fundamental biological processes, from physiology and behaviour to genome evolution and ecological interactions. Yet these differences remain under-integrated into biomedical research and clinical frameworks. This symposium aims to foster dialogue across disciplines and to explore how evolutionary, ecological, clinical, and social perspectives can mutually inform one another.

Talks will be given by researchers from across the Faculty of Biology and Medicine, including Carole Clair and Joëlle Schwarz (Unisanté), Nelly Pitteloud (CHUV), Zoltán Kutalik (Department of Computational Biology), Antje Horsch (Institut universitaire de formation et de recherche en soins), and Alexandre Reymond (Center for Integrative Genomics), as well as several members of the DEE: Tad Kawecki, Tanja Schwander, John Pannell, Charles Mullon, and Erica van de Waal.

The programme will run from 09:00 to 17:00 and will include two coffee breaks, lunch, and a closing apéritif. We warmly encourage participation from across the Faculty and beyond, and we look forward to welcoming a diverse and engaged audience.

For any questions: dee-symposium@unil.ch

The organising committee: John Pannell, Charles Mullon, and Tanja Schwander.
